Like to add a technical link to your site on here? Just email the Webmaster and I'm sure he'll think about it for a good second or so....
The Works of Tier 2 - A shameless promotion for part (well- the part that can be accessed by the public) of the iiNet Melbourne's Tier2 support contribution. It may not look like much, but is being used by a lot of people, so it says a little about the content, I guess.
DSL References - The site is starting to look a little shabby with no images, but it has all the information you need for the Australian DSL services that are offered by Australian providers.
More DSL References - More info on DSL- just a bit more widespread (site is an MIT newsgroup page)
IP Netmask Table - A useful page originally concocted by my former network administrator. Handy for when you just can't remember how many useable addresses are in a certain IP block.
JUSS - Jes's Universal Speed Stringer. This is a site that has been recently pulled down that has great modem strings that are used by many a techie. This is a cached version of the page I grabbed from a mate and fixed up.
Whirlpool - The site for news, reviews and latest breaking information on the up and down industry that is Australian broadband communication. A must for any newbies wanting outside information on the provider they may be about to subscribe to.
PCWorld Helpdesk - Useful for either asking those technical questions or even answering them (as I've done before when I was bored).
Microsoft Technet -A fairly obvious site to everyone who has come into contact with a Microsoft OS in the past 4 years. Good for obtaining the latest patches that may have not appeared in the general Windows Update app.
Common Ports - A list of the common Internet ports that are used for various means of communication. Useful if you are customising a firewall configuration.
Self Hacking Probe - Useful if you want to test your firewall out without letting other people in beforehand! A small probe at the common ports is free. The full test needs a subscription.
Internet Technical Resources - A strangely thrown together page, but has pretty much everything you can think of as far as the Internet is concerned. Includes basic Net history, Net topology, transport layers, protocol information....the list goes on.
DNS Resource Directory - I really should start putting these in sub-pages now. DNSRD is pretty much a good place to start if you wish to dabble in this subject, been thrown in the deep end of DNS administration, or just want to know what the hell (to an extent) DNS does. Also lists RFC docos for DNS.
DNS Howto - Another great resource for the small time DNS administrator, or those wishing to fill the shoes of that role.
Recommendations for DNS SOA Values - A doco by RIPE (well, part of their document store).
Caching Tutorial - A good start for anyone wanting to maintain or start their own cache. Webmasters are also recommended to read this.
MX Verifier - A good tool for checking whether the domain or email address you're delivering mail to is viewable from outside your default network. Good for shutting up people who *swear* the problem is your own.
Anti-relay issues - How to stop the issue of open relay issues with your mail client.
Looking Glass Reference - Best used for checking outside addresses to make sure your network isn't having any sort of routing issues. Different networks are listed within.
Mac Support - Thanks to the boys at Primus for this one (or who were there when I was). Support for your Mac, with various programs to download, as well as direct links to Apple pages for FAQ's.
Relevant RFC's for ISP's - Request For Comments - Basically a set of memos/organisational notes about the Internet that started in 1969 and is now edited by the Internet Society. These are relevant ones that have been gathered for general use. Obviously there could be many more added to this page. See the main RFC search engine for more in depth comments.
